On a planet Sera still shocked by Emergency Day, the DLC takes us to the evacuation of the city of Ilima, with the Locust preparing the Kryll invasion (we had not seen them since the first GoW and the truth is that we missed them ) and before all h**l breaks loose from collateral damage caused by the hammer of dawn. Raam’s Shadow, which is the name of that mysterious expansion for the individual campaign, is what we could describe as a “good” downloadable content: one that adds value to the product, is rightly aimed at fans of the saga and goes beyond the simple scooper.Īlthough logically set in the same universe, Raam’s Shadow is not only not a prequel to Gears of War 3, but also narrates events prior to the first installment of the trilogy. Or, in other words, the kind of DLC that (rightly) unleashes the ire of players and has become one of the darkest and most controversial elements of the current generation.įortunately, the reality in the end turns out to be very different. With an ending that didn’t really leave as closed as Marcus Fénix’s story arc promised, the thing smelled like an epilogue or scraps discarded from the campaign.
When I played Gears of War 3 I was surprised (and not exactly for the better) that a third option marked “Coming Soon” appeared, along with the main story and arcade mode, in the campaign menu.
